A grounded space where healing unfolds at your own pace. Together, we untangle the past and cultivate the life you're meant to live.
I'm Katie — a therapist, professor, mother, and lifelong helper. For over a decade I've had the privilege of sitting with people in their most tender and difficult seasons, and what I know to be true is this: you don't have to walk through it alone.
My approach is rooted in authenticity, honesty, and a complete absence of judgment. I believe people do not exist in isolation — we are shaped by a complex web of relationships, experiences, and systems that make our behavior make sense. I don't believe people are broken or bad. I believe we are hardwired to survive, and with the right support, we have the capacity to heal and to change.
I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree from Louisiana State University, a Master of Science Degree from Louisiana State University at Shreveport, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor in Louisiana and a professor in the Marriage and Family Therapy program at National University — because investing in the next generation of therapists is work I hold close to my heart.
I am EMDR Certified and trained in Sandtray Therapy, with a particular focus on working with couples and families. These modalities allow me to meet clients where they are — whether that's processing trauma at a deeper level, giving voice to what's hard to say out loud, or repairing the connections that matter most.
Outside the therapy room I'm a mom of two, deeply spiritual, and most at home in nature. I bring all of who I am into this work — and I invite you to do the same.
I believe wholeheartedly that people exist within a complex web of relationships, history, and context. I don't look at you in isolation — I examine everything that has shaped you, and together we'll make sense of it.
My therapy room is a place of complete honesty and zero judgment. I show up as my full self, and I create space for you to do the same. Real healing happens in a real relationship.
I understand that difficult behavior is often survival behavior. Together we will work gently and intentionally to help your nervous system find safety, so that lasting change becomes possible — not just in your mind, but in your body and relationships, too.
She has this rare quality of making you feel completely seen without any judgment. I came in feeling broken and left feeling like there was a way through.
The sessions changed how I see my own story. For the first time, I understand why I've been struggling — and I actually feel hopeful.
Warm, brilliant, and so deeply kind. I couldn't have done this healing work without her. My life genuinely looks different now.
Dr. Guinn has been a very supportive and meaningful instructor. Her constructive feedback helped me better understand the material and strengthen my clinical and academic thinking. She created a supportive learning environment that helped me grow in confidence and develop my identity as a Marriage and Family Therapist trainee.
Her feedback was incredibly thorough and thoughtful, and it genuinely helped me build confidence as I worked through each assignment. I appreciated how specific and encouraging her comments were — it made it easier to understand where I was doing well and where I could improve.
The professor was very attentive and provided good feedback after every assignment.
Dr. Guinn is a wonderful and compassionate instructor and her feedback helped me each week.
You were amazing. From our very first Zoom meeting you were professional and kind, and throughout the course I appreciated all of your feedback and knowledge. Thank you for your continued support. The world needs more professors like you.
I want to specifically mention how much Dr. Guinn's weekly feedback meant to me. Her encouragement each week helped me build real confidence in myself as a future clinician, and I don't think I would have grown as much in this course without that consistent support.
